Flight Attendant / Pilot Communications and Enhanced Training Survey

"Post 9/11 Flight Attendant/Pilot Communication and Training Requirements, are they Adequately Addressed in the Current Climate of Aviation?"

This research is intended to study discrepancies in communication between pilots and flight attendants, as well as, the value of joint safety training scenarios. Results garnered will be used to improve overall communication and coordination between the cabin and flight deck, as well as; increase overall flight safety. A similar study was completed by NASA in 1995, which identified gaps in Pilot/ Flight Attendant Communications. With changes in procedures after 9/11, and the new fortress door, we felt it was important to look into these areas again. We are also looking at joint scenario based training and possible benefits of new technologies.

Any information entered into this survey will be forwarded to Ms. Lori Brown and Mr. John Niehaus at Western Michigan University, College of Aviation, 237 North Helmer Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037.

We invite you to answer the questions, though you may decline to participate in this survey. In addition, at any time, you may choose not to answer any question, or choose not to continue in the project for any reason, with no notice.
